itineraries

The sorrento peninsula from Sorrento to Meta di Sorrento and Capri its like a very big natural park where going a little away from the center mean encounter landscapes, views and beaches never seen before. The tufa mountains where the Sorrento peninsula is located on, give to our town the original and natural beauty that make it famous all over the world and one of the world's preferred touristic destinations. Below there are some itineraries that a tourist lover of the nature will very much appreciate, we have found informations about Tore (on the mountains of the Sorrento peninsula), Regina Giovanna, Jeranto Bay and the Campanella Cape (beach and coastline itineraries).

regina giovanna

The road among via Capodimonte via Pantano and the Promontory of the Cape is steep and it passes from a cultivated ground to a rocky and dry one. On the promontory there is a very dry area with Euphorbiae , brooms , brambles and a low vegetation typical of the areas near the sea. On the rock defining the basin of Regina Giovanna you can note the ruins of a roman villa probably of Augustan age. The villa was divided in domus and villa. only a group of walls are remained of the domus which was on the top of the promontory. The villa on the sea, which was on the other side of the promontory ,separates from the hinterland by the natural basin, formed only building made up of the house, terraces ,landing places , cisterns. Of it there are ruins sufficient to let us conjectur about its structure. The itinerary has a natural , historical and archeological interest. The way to isn't difficult. It's available to go there in spring and in autumn. The Circumvesuviana buses take to Sorrento Cape from witch you can shortly Regina Giovanna next to the bathing establishments and the "solare".

jeranto bay

After Nerano, you meet olive-groves. Between Villa Rosa and Jeranto there are heaps of rocks with fossil Gasteropoda (Helicidi). There are few shrubs (generally Junipers together with the grey leafed vegetation .The Mediterranean flora is replaced by the Garida (peculiar of dry places).
At Jeranto it is possible to watch the peregrine falcon and the Royal sea-gull (surely in this area four couples of falcon live). On Jeranto gulf there was certainly a sanctuary of Greek age devoted to the mar maids. We can't establish the exact point where it was because of the lack of emerging ruins. Probably the temple was built with local calcareous stones. Perhaps later on they were used to build the Saracen tower at Montalto.
From Tasso square SITA buses leave to the square of Nerano. Jeranto is an itinerary of exclusively panoramic and natural interest. The way of Jeranto is not easy. In the summer it is advisable to go to nerano in the twilight.

le tore

You can find the classic Sorrento cultivation from Ategliana street up to Grottelle street where a coppiced chestnut wood stars. Tore are covered by a young pine-wood planted after 1974 when a wind storm destroyed the preceding one.
At Rivezzoli ,there are coppiced cestnut woods with the typical undergrowth flowers : anemones cyclamens and again olive trees, vines , citrus-orchard. In autumn in the harvest-time among the olive trees they put some coloured nets which keep the olives fallen by the branches.
In the area of Atigliana there are the remains of a roman cistern belonging to a villa. The itinerary is rich in panoramic places. It is advisable in spring and autumn.

punta campanella

The frist part of the itinerary is characterized by the typical Mediterranean flora: holm-oaks, wild plums , oaks myrtles ,and ivies, clematises. Near Campanella it turns into a luxuriant vegetation: there are wild olive trees, Euphorbia, rosemaries and junipers. The trees are particular, in fact the wind models them in unusual shapes .
From the promontory it is possible to watch the peregrine falcon and the kestrel. On the extreme point of Campanella there was the temple devoted to Minerva , perhaps in the place later occupied by the Saracen tower , because its rectangular plan might suggest it was built on the foundations of the temple. Next to the temple, of the Greek origin, there was a Roman villa. Of it we have only a few remains among which some remains of exedra. Interesting elements are the remains (probably) of a speculum which was in front of the light house of villa Jovis at Capri.
The path leading to the temple of Athena is preserved from a long strips which prove that , from termini to Punta Campanella the layout has been untouched .We can reach Termini, a helmet of Massalubrense , by one of Sita buses from Tasso square. Punta Campanella is an itinerary of a great natural, historical and archeological interest.
